Underfloor Insulation
Properly installed underfloor insulation will help reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, reducing the need for energy consuming heating and cooling appliances, at the same time creating a more comfortable living space for you and your family.
The easiest time to install underfloor insulation is at the time of construction. However, if your home is built off the ground it may still be possible to install underfloor insulation from below.
Because the underfloor area is often prone to dampness, an important consideration when choosing an underfloor insulation is how it will be affected by moisture.
The most popular underfloor insulation products are:
Polyester underfloor insulation rolls
Polyester is hydrophobic, which means it is largely unaffected by moisture which makes it an excellent choice for subfloor installation. Higgins polyester underfloor insulation rolls are soft to the touch, easy to handle and are available in 430 or 580mm widths and R1.5, R2.0, R3.0 R-Values.
Polystyrene underfloor insulation panels
Like polyester, polystyrene is also unaffected by moisture making it another excellent choice for installing underfloor. Polystyrene underfloor insulation generally comes in a 1.2m rigid polystyrene panel that is 60mm thick and concertina cut to 4 standard widths to fit snugly between regular floor joist spacings.
Kingspan AIR-CELL Permifloor®
A patented closed-cell, cross-linked foam structure sandwiched between highly reflective foil surfaces to provide a moisture barrier and reflective insulation properties. Available in 1350mm wide rolls or a pre-cut 500mm wide roll.
